Paris Hilton has responded to presumptive Republican
presidential nominee John McCain’s ad comparing the heiress
to Barack Obama with a campaign ad of her own.
Hilton’s spot, paid for by Web site funnyordie.com, stars
the socialite mocking McCain’s “Celeb” ad comparing Obama,
a U.S. senator from Illinois, to Hilton and Britney Spears,
CNN reported Wednesday.
“I want America to know that I’m, like, totally ready to
lead,” the swimsuit-clad Hilton said in her video. Hilton
said her administration would have an energy policy that
represents a “hybrid” of McCain’s and Obama’s positions
and even revealed her pick for vice president: “I’m
thinking Rihanna,” she said.
“I’ll see you at the White House. Oh, and I might paint
it pink. I hope that’s cool with you guys,” Hilton said
in the video.
The video ends with a satirical sign-off from the hotel
heiress: “I’m Paris Hilton and I approve this message
because I think it’s totally hot.”
McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds said campaign is aware
of the video. “It sounds like Paris Hilton supports
John McCain’s ‘all of the above’ approach to America’s
energy crisis — including both alternatives and drilling.
Paris Hilton might not be as big a celebrity as Barack
Obama but she obviously has a better energy plan,” he
told CNN.
What are your thoughts on the McCain’s ad comparing the
Paris and Britney to Barack Obama?

26 teen cheerleaders trapped in elevator
Police at the University of Texas in Austin said emergency
responders freed 26 teen cheerleaders that had crammed into
an elevator, causing the doors to jam. Campus police said
the group of 14-to-17-year-olds attending Texas Cheer Camp
packed themselves into an elevator that successfully
descended from the fourth floor of Jester Hall to the ground
floor. But once the elevator arrived at its intended
destination, the doors would not open, The Dallas Morning
News reported Wednesday. The girls used cell phones to
call for help but they were trapped for about 25 minutes
while a repairman worked on the doors, police said.
One of the girls was treated at a hospital and released
after the ordeal caused her to faint. Two others were
treated at the scene for minor ailments. “It’s dangerous
actually,” said Rhonda Weldon, director of communications
for the UT Police Department. “They’re lucky that that’s
all that happened.” “Take the sign seriously,” she said.
“There are signs everywhere: No more than 15 people or
3,000 pounds.”

Court: Rocker’s booze not tax-exempt
A Swedish musician’s “right to rock” doesn’t extend to
considering copious amounts of alcohol as a personal expense
for tax purposes, officials said. The 21-year-old singer
had tried to claim that because rockers drink a lot as part
of their jobs, he should be allowed to import 12 gallons of
spirits, 16 gallons of wine and 300 beers into Sweden without
having to pay hefty import duties, The Local reported
Wednesday. “I … drink a great deal more than the average
Swede. I’m a singer in a rock band and whiskey is a part of
it,” the rocker contended at an administrative court hearing
in Helsingborg, Sweden. However, the court disagreed with
him, ruling that the booze didn’t qualify under rules that
exempt alcohol for “individual consumption” from the liquor
import duties.

Sweden says ‘no mail’ to British woman
Sweden’s postal service declines to discuss its refusal to
deliver the mail to a British woman because her mailbox is
on the wrong side of the road. Ginny Rankin, who hails
from the island of Jersey off the English coast, had no
trouble receiving mail in the box in front of her house
until her route was changed to a different distribution
center, The Local reported Wednesday. The postman of that
distribution center arrives at her house from the opposite
direction, meaning he’d have to get out of his vehicle and
walk across the street to put the mail in her box. Rankin
received a letter saying her mailbox had to be moved across
the street if she wanted to continue receiving mail. “I
didn’t think they were serious,” she said, adding that they
wanted her to place her mailbox on someone else’s property.
“It’s almost like they’re the mafia holding our post as
ransom.” Sweden’s postal service had no comment on the
situation.

What are your thoughts on homeowners being punished for
overfilled garbage cans?
“Wow…now that is stupid! I can’t imagine such a stiff
penalty for something so silly”
“Again why America is the greatest country.”
“Well if it is a major problem, I guess you need a major
punishment for anyone to do something about it.”
